VaquitaCPR is directly supporting critical conservation initiatives to protect the vaquita porpoise from imminent extinction.

Through VaquitaCPR, our team continues to support the most critical conservation actions aimed at giving vaquitas an increased chance at survival. This includes Earth League International’s efforts to combat the wildlife crime that is driving the decline of the species, Cetacean Action Treasury’s community engagement and alternative fishing gear development in San Felipe, and collaborative scientific surveys and acoustic monitoring to count and track vaquitas and inform protection measures.

With the knowledge gained from vaquitas we want to ensure that the dolphin, porpoise, and whale species that are facing similar plights and are on the same trajectory as vaquitas do not end up in this position. With so many marine mammal species on the brink of extinction, including vaquitas, the IUCN has called for urgent action to save these species and the ecosystems they call home. The National Marine Mammal Foundation is responding to the call with Operation GRACE: Global Rescue of At-Risk Cetaceans & Ecosystems. This program includes our VaquitaCPR conservation actions, and also allows us to apply what we learn from vaquitas to protect other at-risk species.

VaquitaCPR has worked to directly support critical conservation initiatives to protect the vaquita porpoise from extinction. With the news that the vaquita’s habitat is no longer protected from fishing and extinction is more imminent than ever, donations are being routed to Earth League International (ELI), which has been part of our team trying to save the vaquita. ELI (formerly Elephant Action League) is an innovative non-governmental organization that fights environmental/wildlife crime by merging the worlds of conservation, intelligence, investigation, research, analysis, and media production.

We remain hopeful for vaquitas. We will not give up. Join us today!
